Marsha R. Dodson is the co-founder of Empowering Parents, Concerned Parents Alliance, Inc.
and its educational component
College Bound San Diego. Marsha is also the co-author of
"Empowering Parents: A Parents Guide to Taking Control of Your Child's Educational Journey".
She is also a proud woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc.
Marsha is committed to helping empower students and parents to take an active role in their
educational journey from kindergarten to high school to college and beyond. She understands
the importance of parental involvement in a child’s ability to achieve excellence. Marsha
strives to ensure that all students are given access to a quality education, including high
academic expectations from their parents, teachers and administrators. She received the 2005
African American Educator of the Year Award from
College Bound San Diego and the 2007 Educator
of the Year Award from the North County San Diego Chapter of the NAACP.
Marsha is the sixth of seven children of Edmondson and Marilyn Overton. She earned a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Journalism and a Certificate in Government Contract Management from San Diego
State University.
Marsha has been married to Michael Dodson for twenty-four years. They have three children, Amber
Renee 23, Jason Keith, 22, and Camry Marina, 18. Amber is a graduate of North Carolina A&T
State University and currently enrolled in graduate school at Florida State University. Jason
graduated from Loyola Marymount University in May 2009 and is working at the Creative Artist
Agency in Los Angeles and Camry graduated from Westview High School and is currently enrolled
in a three year transition program.
